The Riches of His Glory

The Riches of His Glory

We started considering the content of Paul’s Prayer for the Ephesians’ church which is much relevant for us in this dispensation. We have known the meaning of the hope of the Father’s calling us to himself. For a full understanding of that, check the first post to update yourself.
Today, the Father wants us to move ahead in knowing the riches of His glory, and the inheritance in the saint. Before I write further on this let’s look at the passage which the Lord is using to teach us.
Ephesians 1:5-18 ” Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, 16. Do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory may give onto you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18. The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, WHAT ARE THE RICHES OF THE GLORY OF HIS INHERITANCE IN THE SAINTS. ”
In verse 17 He called God the Father of glory and because we are born of Him we are sons of glory, which means He has brought us into His own glory. Praise God!
Hebrews 2:9-10 ” But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels (the word angels there in the original translation means Elohim), for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honour, that He by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone. For it was fitting for Him (God our Father), for WHOM are all things, in BRINGING MANY SONS ONTO GLORY, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. ”
1 Thessalonians 2:11-12 ” As you know we exhorted, and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father does his own children, 12. That you would walk worthy of God WHO HAS CALLED YOU INTO HIS KINGDOM AND GLORY. ”
We can see how the Father has brought us into His glory by the death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ. Not a few was brought but many sons. You and I are sons of God the same way Jesus is. There is no different between us.
What is the glory of our Father?
It simply means the way God is; His class;; His personality and how He operates. It means His all-round beauty, His encompassing and overwhelming beauty. It means His supremacy and dominion over all things, both visible and invisible.
We will understand what the glory of God our Father is by briefly looking at the creation of man. By this the glory of God is summarized by these two words, His person and authority (dominion) over all that exists.
Genesis 1:26 ” And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.”
Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; ”
He created man in His image and after His likeness to dominate over the earth. The man who was created thus rebelled against God and couldn’t be found in the image of God again. This resulted into the lost of his dominionship over all things God put under his control (Genesis 3, 5:1-4; Luke 4:6 ). This is the reason why Paul wrote in his epistle to the Romans that all have sinned and come short the glory of God. To be called into glory means to be made like God our Father in Christ, having dominion over all in Him. Being made like God in Christ means we have the same life and attribute with Him. This is all in Christ. Being born of God through faith in Christ brought us this privilege.
Now we are in His kingdom and glory. In this glory are riches, according to the text we are considering and these riches are in us. Folks, I want us to understand that there is nothing we need on earth which is not included among the riches of the glory that the Father has deposited in us. Hallelujah.
The original translation of Ephesians 1:18 says “WHAT ARE THE RICHES OF HIS GLORY, THE INHERITANCE IN THE SAINTS “. I have a strong support for this because we use scriptures to interprete scriptures.
Col. 1:12 “Giving thanks onto the Father, Who has qualified us to be partakers of THE INHERITANCE OF THE SAINTS in the light.”
Philemon 1:6 “That the communication of your faith might be effective by the acknowledgement of EVERY GOOD THING WHICH IS IN YOU IN CHRIST JESUS.”
The riches of God’s glory are the inheritance of the saints in the LIGHT. They are not what we worked for. They became ours legally by birth and the Father gave birth to us by faith in Christ Jesus. This simply means that He qualified us for it by grace and not by our work. He qualified us for it by His work done in Christ Jesus the Firstborn of our Family.
Note this: the new man is in the image of God.
You see, many Christians want to earn God’s blessing by their works. This kind of belief leads to struggle and frustration. The Father’s blessing is on everyone who believes in Christ Jesus. This means Christ is our qualification for the blessings and nothing else. In Christ are loads of blessings (inheritance). Note this again, the Father requires nothing from us to enjoy the inheritance He has given to us freely in Christ Jesus.
The Light mentioned is Christ Jesus and everyone in the Light are saints. Being a saint is not by our performance, it is who we are because we are born of the Father. We are holy because He who gave birth to us is Holy by nature (1 Cor. 1:1-2, Acts 9:13, 32, Romans 1:9, Romans12:13 etc ).
WHAT ARE THE RICHES OF HIS GLORY?
The reason why the Father deposited these riches in us is because He wants us to “RICHLY” enjoy them.
1 Timothy 6:17 ” Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high-minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us RICHLY ALL THINGS TO ENJOY. ”
In other word, He brought us into glory to enjoy. For us to enjoy these treasures in us, we must first come to the awareness of them. Knowledge is the requirement for enjoying these rich treasures in us and the Father has revealed them to us by His Spirit. They are all written in His word.
1 Corinthians 2:9-10 ” But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for them that love Him. But God has revealed them onto us by His Spirit: for the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God”
Do you love the Lord? Yes, if you have believed in the Lord Jesus. To love God is simply by faith in the person whom God sent to redeem us, Jesus Christ. It means to believe all He has said to us by the first born of our family. In fact, nobody can love without God loving him first. It’s our response to the love of God that made us to love Him. Loving God is a capacity He gave us through the faith of Christ. Loving God is a capacity we received by grace through faith in Christ.
1 John 4:19 “We love Him because He first loved us.”
1 Peter 1:7-8 ” ….Whom you have not seen, YOU LOVE; in Whom , though now you see Him not, YET BELIEVING, you rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory. ”
