The New Man

The New Man

There are two kinds of birth, one is physical birth and the other one is spiritual birth. Before a man can be born again, he must first have heard the natural birth, after which, he receives the second birth. Apostle Paul buttressing on this said in 1Cor. 15:46 “However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual.”
John 3:4-6
Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
You see, man is composed of three parts, the body, the soul and the spirit. The body is his container with which he is able to move and operate as man on the earth. At natural/physical birth, he came into the world from his mother’s womb with this body.
The other part of man is his soul; this is the center of his emotions, intellect, and reasoning. It is the place of his will. This compartment called soul is what makes man intelligent above other creatures. With is soul, he’s able to think, make decisions, and willfully choose what to or what not to do.
The last compartment on this list is the spirit. The spirit of man is where God decides to live when a man receives the Lordship of Jesus over his life. It is this spirit that gets born again at new birth and this is the seat of the identity of the believer.
John 14:23
“Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.”
When you hear the word Born-Again, don’t let it sound like a cliché. To be born again means to hear the gospel of your salvation, the gospel of Christ, and believe it. After which you accept it, and confess the Lord Jesus with your mouth, as your Savior. Immediately, you do this, your spirit gets reborn by the creative power of God through the Holy Spirit, such that the person you become in the spirit after taken the step of faith – confessing to His name, never existed before. This is why the new man is a miracle. He is brand new.

Five things to know about the New Man
There are many attributes of the new man, but I will dwell on just five points.
1. The new man is a miracle; he is the creative work of God through the power of the Holy Spirit.
At new birth, the new man was miraculously created through the power of the Holy Spirit. When the gospel of Christ was preached and was received upon by faith, the Holy Spirit immediately created a brand new spirit within the receiver of the gospel, a dwelling place suitable for Him. Prior to the gospel being received upon, the individual had a human spirit that was unregenerated. But at the reception of the gospel by faith, the old man is blotted out and a creative work of the Holy Spirit created the new man who never existed before. This working of the Holy Spirit is not the recreation of the old man, no! It is the complete creation of a brand new man who never existed before. This is why he is a new creation.
2 Cor. 5:17
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
Eph. 1:13
“In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.”

2. He is a son of God.
The new man is not a slave in the Father’s house, but a son. He has full privileges to his Father’s inheritance, but a slave does not have that opportunity.
This means that as a born again child of God, all that the Father has are yours through Christ Jesus. You are an heir of God and a joint heir with Christ Jesus, and you abide forever in your Father’s house. You are never a cast away.
You have access to the Father through the blood of Jesus to make demands in Jesus’ name. The Father’s will for you is life and immortality, divine health, perfect peace, access to the revelation of Christ etc. Think of all that the Father has according to His word, they all belong to you. In other words, all things are yours in Christ Jesus. God Himself is your possession. And as a son, you have the blood bought right to make demands in Jesus name.
John 8:35
“And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever.”
Galatians 4:7
“Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.”

3. He is renewed in the knowledge of God.
The new man is renewed in the knowledge of God. The new man was birthed by the revelation of Christ, through the gospel preached; hence, he was born of the word of God, and he knows all things that pertain to God in Christ Jesus, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in him. This Holy Spirit is inseparably woven together with him.
Col. 3:10-11
“And have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all.”
Eph. 4:24
“And that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.”

4. He is born again and does not sin
The nature of sin was in the old man that was done away with when you said yes to Jesus, not the new man that was created by the Holy Spirit. The new man cannot sin because the Holy Spirit and himself are one. The new man is holy, blameless and pure. He possesses the life of God, therefore, he cannot sin.
1John 3:9
“Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.”
1John 5:18
“We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him.”

5. He is the spirit of love, power and sound mind
The new man is the spirit of love, power and sound mind. At new birth, the Holy Spirit poured the love of God into him. Not only that, he was also anointed with power through the same Spirit, and being filled with the knowledge of God in Christ Jesus, he possesses the very mind of Christ, knowing the will of God as he is daily exposed to the word of God.
Rom. 5:5
“Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”
2Tim. 1:7
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
