Life through the Gospel 2

Life through the Gospel 2

In my previous article on the Topic “Life and Immortality” – that is the last edition of WLFA Newsletter, I focused on the abolition of death through the death of Jesus on the Cross, how Jesus the light of the world became darkness at Gethsemane, and tasted death for us, and how this brought about His physical, spiritual, and eternal death. However, in this article we’ll be focusing on how Jesus brought Life and Immortality to light through His resurrection from the dead. Praise God!
My first article on this topic is very important as a foundation for this write-up. It is very important to know that Jesus Christ tasted death for us that we might live through His life, meaning His death, was our death, so that His resurrection from the dead might be our resurrection and life, herein, Christ brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.
As a reminder, I said in my previous article that Jesus tasted spiritual, physical and eternal death for us, being made “Sin” by God, that He might go down to hell! But the hell He went was for our advantage, it was a mission to take the keys of death and hell permanently from the devil, and to release all those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. See Heb.2:15
“I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.” Rev. 1:18
Now, in faithfulness to the Father’s word according to David’s prophecy, God raised Jesus Christ from the dead that He might not see corruption, although His body was buried in corruption (being made Sin), He was raised in incorruption.
“So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption.” 1Cor. 15:42
“For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.” Psa. 16:10
Apostle Peter also quoted from Psalm 16
“For David says concerning Him: ‘ I foresaw the LORD always before my face, For He is at my right hand, that I may not be shaken. Therefore my heart rejoiced, and my tongue was glad; Moreover my flesh also will rest in hope. For You will not leave my soul in Hades, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. You have made known to me the ways of life; You will make me full of joy in Your presence.’ “Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne, he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption.” Acts 2:25:31
Since His body was buried in corruption (separation from God), an eternal purpose ordained by God, that He might die for our sins, and through His resurrection He might bring many sons to glory, it was important for God’s creative power to impute eternal life into Jesus Christ, that He might be raised incorruptibly, and so become the first begotten from the dead, and the author of eternal life and salvation to everyone who would believe in Him.
Jesus consummated life and immortality by His resurrection from the dead. It was absolutely impossible for death to hold Him down. He silenced the power of grave and hell forever by His triumphant resurrection. Hallelujah!
“Concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.” Rom. 1:3-4
Bless the Lord for what Jesus did for us. What a glorious friend and brother! Now, it is even more interesting to know that all that Jesus did in His finished work was not for Him, but for us! I’m so happy to know, according to God’s word that Abba Father has begotten us as sons into a living hope, through Jesus’ resurrection from the dead. Just as Jesus was declared to be the son of God, by the Spirit of holiness through resurrection, we also were made sons by His resurrection from the dead.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” 1Pet. 1:3
No wonder Jesus before He went to the Cross at all, during His earthly ministry, when Martha alleged Him that her brother Lazarus would not have died if He had been around earlier, said unto her “your brother will rise again”. But Martha thinking Jesus was referring to the event of the resurrection of the just at the last day, said to Him “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” Immediately after Martha’s response, Jesus gave a remarkable reply, shutting off all religious reasoning, He said, “I am the resurrection and the life”. See John 11:21-25
“Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”” John 11:25-26
In other words, Jesus was saying that, resurrection is not an event, neither is it a dispensation. Resurrection is a Person. He is the resurrection and the life! However, His pre-eminence as the resurrection and the life did not take effect during His earthly ministry, until after He died on the cross, was buried, and rose from the grave on the third day!
Jesus said in verse 25, “…he who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.” This means that the one who believes in Him may sleep in the Lord, he will never come into eternal death, rather he will pass on to glory, and live forever with the Lord.
But verse 26 is an incredible truth that we should simply accept in simplicity and fellowship with Christ in that reality. It says “And whoever lives and believes in Me, shall never die. Do you believe this?”
Oh glory! Jesus is saying in this verse 26, that whoever is alive, that is (living), and believes in Him, this one shall never die. Simple! I believe the word “die” as used in this verse is not only referring to spiritual and eternal death, but also physical death.
Let your mind be childlike enough to contain and retain this truth in its simplicity. Jesus had to ask Martha if she believed this. It seemed too good to be true, or rather too impossible to be real, after all everyone dies, you may reason. But the Bible says “…all things are possible to him who believes.” Mark 9:23
God’s delight is to see you live out your years in rich fulfilment of His will for your life. His will is to see you live to a fruitful old age, until you are satisfied and are ready to go home. This is very consistent with God in His word; several Bible verses declare these truth. See the following:
“He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honour him. With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation.”” Psalm 91:15-16
“The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those who are planted in the house of the LORD Shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing.” Psalm 92:12-14
“No more shall an infant from there live but a few days, Nor an old man who has not fulfilled his days; For the child shall die one hundred years old, But the sinner being one hundred years old shall be accursed. They shall build houses and inhabit them; They shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit. They shall not build and another inhabit; They shall not plant and another eat; For as the days of a tree, so shall be the days of My people, And My elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.” Isa. 65:20-22
All the above promises are fulfilled in Christ, and we now have them as infallible truths in the riches of God’s grace towards us. Longevity of life is yes and amen to us in Christ Jesus, prospering in the gospel of Christ is also a yes and amen! The way to enjoy the supply of the Spirit in the miraculous for you and everyone you are trusting God for is unwavering faith in Christ, and His potent word, through a life of fellowship in the place of prayer. The supply of the Spirit will always be made available through believers’ interceding for the Body, and the believer will be positioned to receive this supply when his heart is focused on the Lord Jesus, and he releases the abundant life in him, by acknowledging every good that is in him in Christ Jesus, to the intent that he might enjoy the riches of the exceeding greatness of God’s power in him.
“Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? — just as Abraham “believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.”” Gal. 3:5-6
“That the sharing of your faith may become effective by the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.” Philemon 6
I said earlier that after Jesus’ resurrection from the dead, He launched everyone who believed, and would believe in Him into life and immortality.
His resurrection and ascension to the right hand of God’s power made Him receive the Father’s promise of the Holy Spirit for us, which He promised His disciples and instructed them to tarry in Jerusalem until they were endued with power from on high.
“Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”” Luke 24:49
This glory and power of God came down at Pentecost, in the Person of the Holy Spirit, and since then He has been the presence and the power of God in everyone who believes and confesses to the name of Jesus Christ. Hallelujah!
Right now, the new creation is a carrier of the resurrection power and the life of God! In him is the mighty, rushing river of life, bursting forth into life unending! This is the exceeding greatness of God’s power at work in him.
“And what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places.” Eph. 1:19-20
The law of the Spirit of life which Jesus brought to light through His resurrection from the dead is now the only potent force in the new creation. Since Jesus abolished the law of sin and death in His death, the new creation is now the custodian of life and immortality on the earth. By this law of the Spirit of life, the Holy Spirit quickens his mortal body, dominating his physical body with divine health, just as Christ Jesus was raised from the dead, by the power of God. And with this life, he goes about turning men from darkness into light.
Jesus’ body was wounded and bruised, disfigured beyond human recognition, according to the scriptures, but it was raised up on the third day in complete perfect wholeness! No wounds and no bruises, except the holes where nails were driven through. Glory to God! The same power that gave Jesus the glorified body is presently at work in us, quickening us, and empowering us to taste the powers of the age to come.
“And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.” Rom. 8:10-11
“And what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places.” Eph. 1:19-20
Indeed the New Creation can now say, “Oh how God has anointed me with the Holy Spirit and with power. I have been made good, a plant grafted in the vine by the love of the Father, a tree, planted and rooted in the soil of grace. I go about doing good, healing all that are oppressed of the devil, for God is in me, and He is with me.” Glory!
Shake off that beast of sickness; shake off that challenge off you! Rise high above like an edifice! Come into the consciousness of life and immortality that Jesus has brought to light through His gospel, for you are seated together with Him in glory! Declare it! pray it!! Keep saying it!!! And go out there and bless the nations of the earth with the life and immortality you have received in the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ! Amen!
